If God Mingled

I hear the word "god" nearly every day. It is used in many contexts, and by people of all kinds. I most often hear it used before "dammit", or between "for", and "sake". Depending on what your religious convictions are, or how you view the word in general, these can be highly offensive. When a word like god becomes part of the general vernacular, it has a tendency to lose it's efficacy, as well as the actual definition. I could go link happy at this point with definitions, but even Webster can't nail this down.

Music is a good place to start if you are looking for a more human definition of god. Concrete Blonde comes to mind in their song "God Is A Bullet". The song is about a reject kid who becomes a cop and shoots someone out of fear, thus giving himself the power over life and death. The chorus ends with, "God is a bullet, have mercy on us everyone." In that instance, god is anyone, and it sheds light on how guns are the ultimate judge and jury; god. Note: This song was published in 1989; before we thought about guns every day.

On the other, less popular side of the equation, we have songs like "God Is Good All The Time", by Don Moen. (warning, this website may not be suitable for children, and he makes plenty of money despite the .org) This is a Christian themed take on how god makes everything perfect, even when you are in the proverbial valley. Recognizing god can actually make you "clearly see" through his eyes. That sounds like something that everyone would want. It sounds like you could be a little smarter than people that don't see it that way. Even though this song was meant to be about how nice god is, it still has that element of humanity that wants to have an edge over others. This may be an unintended consequence of the fame and excess that comes along with the rock & roll lifestyle.
I was going to use church vs. pagans to see if god mingled with either one over the other, but I really don't think any evidence can be found in either place. The concept of god has been interpreted in so many ways that it means something different to everyone; even the people within groups or churches have differing views. The current state of the American Christian church is enough evidence to show that success has to do with shrewd business men who can preach a tear-jerker every week more than it does with god. If they owned the patent on god, all churches could potentially reach the level of "mega".

Now we are left with no proof other than the part of us that suspects that a creator might be involved somewhere. Scientifically speaking, it would appear that a higher power must have intervened on our planet to some degree. This whole thing being an accident is as religious as religion itself. The beauty of earth is god. The beauty of love and passion is god. We are god. With that said; god mingles with us. The quality of one human over another is non-existent. There is as much god in me as there is the most immoral criminal you can contrive. It all comes down to what kind of god you choose to be. Will you be the mean, authoritarian god, or the sweet god that is good all the time? Will you crown your television god, or will you be the next star on tv? Whatever the case, you are god, and you can determine how you will mingle with the rest of the gods. Let's pull away from the lie that we aren't all our own god and find a path that leads us away from religious clubs, and closer to equality.
