Passive Revolution

At some point in history, millions of people made a decision. People are still making the same decision. The decision was made through suggestion, and the implied benefits of the suggested products. These products were sold to you while promising a better life. The consequences of this group decision are now coming to fruition. America has been lulled into materialism, and the marketing not only worked, it made sleepy citizens. The world does not sleep because we are. Things are happening all the time.

Intolerable acts of our ruling classes don't really matter when you decide to opt out of the solution process. Some of us are informed enough to know that there are issues that need to be addressed concerning our society. Even with this knowledge, there is little mass action. I am not calling for revolution, but eventually the difference between trying to fix these ills now, and the crumbling of our framework will force us into a decision to stay asleep or act.

We are in a state of passive revolution. The rage and division, the government, the work-place and all of the tumult you are aware of should at least make you stand up. Passivity has become irrelevant. Most Americans have decided to yell at the television, and pretend that they are helping. You aren't. You are merely buying, as well as advertising their products. Really.

So what can all of you spitting nails, couch revolutionaries do? First, you learn how to write a formal letter; not handwritten. You can do this here. If you prefer pictures, there are some here. Pick a topic that irks you, caregorize it, then find an appropriate audience. State and US Senators and House reps are generally responsive. You may receive form letters the first few times, but after the same topic hits their desks four or five times, you can get a letter that has something to do with your issue. It might be signed by him or her with a real pen. Now multiply that by one million.

I believe that any time there is a stalemate, it can only go on for so long before one side makes a move. The governing bodies, the salesmen, and the media have been fortifying their positions for years. Their moves -allowed by us- can be intentionally slow; they know how to make us hate them, and invest in them simultaneously. Our moves would have to be fast and massive just to breach the great American television addiction, so there is much work to do.

Time can be a factor in one's decision to sit back and hope that something will change. There is time. There are hours of time in the course of a day that we either don't notice, or don't manage. Those gaps in between everything else that matters can be used for making yourself find a cause. We need to quit this cut adrift madness and turn this place back into one that represents who we are. The opposite will not do. No more twisted definitions of what we need. Remember; we are America. The few have no regard for what that may be, and they turned on us first. Wake up and help prevent bloodshed. It doesn't have to come to that.

A good friend of mine ("B") has been telling my daughter to "raise your fist and resist!!!!1" since she was brand new...14 years. Look out for her; she has been trained by some really cool people. She is not passive. Thanks B.
