Washington's Commitment Problems

What a great day to be sworn in again. President Obama is having the honor of being sworn in as our 45th big boss, and despite the fantastical odds of having to do it twice, both times, it will be publicly official today. Congratulations Sir. No matter what has happened in your presidential past, the process and spectacle of being sworn in is still amazing. It is the end result of beating the pants off of the opposition, paying the right people, and having no real competition to get there. It is also a fading shadow of what could have remained a true Representative Republic. Let the circus begin!
Lack of commitment is not exclusive to DC, but with all eyes on the debates going on up there, it is rampant. There are no party lines. The aisle has been removed because of these "elected" drones. The division between parties has never been real, and none of them are honestly looking for the compromise that will inch the tri-cycle of their system forward. Every time their is a "defector" within a certain party (they know this before hand), it not only shows an inability to commit, it puts the defectors in a sort of neutral position. Every time an ass-kisser like Paul Ryan, who has no sway at all, defects from GOP philosophy, he never commits to what he thinks is a better idea. It is merely another way of saying that they cannot commit.
The reason for non-commital politics has been reduced to the next campaign. If each member of Congress can procure enough pork money to their respective districts, they will have a shot at re-election. The longer they hold these positions, the more disconnected they become from what might actually be an issue that needs attention. You probably know that, right?
The way I see it, there are two other main sources responsible for the rest of Americans who are unable to make lasting commitments. I will start in the last frontier of the West. The place where moving pictures are produced, most of which are laced with a "far west" agenda. Yes, Hollywood has had many political sweethearts through history, and they are not governed or steered by popular opinion; they are popular opinion. Hitler was hugely popular during his charismatic, pre-holocaust years, as was Mussolini. We all know where that went. The aim is to keep people entertained and it doesn't matter what they produce any more; the masses listen. The point is that the West is a huge steering force that certainly goes hand in hand with the East.
There is an irrigation ditch that was probably built by shovels being held by men who were commited to making sure the people had water. That ditch has become the dissemination channel for the media. They have become the polluted water. The message is the same no matter what the story is. They are meant to inform, but they only help keep you dumb. It can be compared to the over-stimulation of a baby; you are shocked into lethargy and you will not tear yourself away from it because life might visit you.
There are hundreds of statistics to support the fact that Americans will not commit. One of the most glaring is the divorce rate. It lies somewhere between 40% -60%. What? State governments have made it progressively easier to throw a marriage away, and many couples enter into this alliance with that in mind. Of course there are legitamate reasons for divorce, like physical or emotional violence, but do those problems affect marriage at the rate of 50%? Has infidelity come to represent 50%? No. It is a reflection of America's inability to commit. Commitment is never automatic, and it can be a painful process, but it has to happen on a mass scale.
What if we are able to stop the Constitutional stomping going on right now? Is there a force potent enough to first wake up, then activate the average dead-beat American? Is there a government foul great enough to take up arms on a mass scale? There might be. I am afraid that most of you will let someone else do it. One day the abuse will hit too close to home, and you will be faced with a choice. If your shrinking pay-check is not enough, will it be enough when you lose the right to buy bullets for the guns you use to protect yourself from other, less desirable Americans? Would you join a movement -if you could pry your eyes away from the distractions that you stare at every day- that you found yourself in? Will this mess ever be large enough to act upon?
Commit. Quit being useless. Turn off your tv. Quit being an obesity statistic. Exercise your freedom while you still can; I don't mean voting. At the very least, commit to your family. Educate your kids, and quit letting them be sucked into the same meat grinder that you are stuck in. Quit letting your money hungry preacher dictate your politics.
There are thousands of abuses going on around you. Pick one that pisses you off the most and change it. We are getting tired of fighting with a grossly under staffed army. We need every weapon available. No, don't use your guns, use your brains. Read books while they still print them on paper; your country needs you.
